Day 2: Twittoritory...and more...

Once again I am certain another overwhelming day. I thought I would post a Voicethread that I made asking teachers to talk about how they use cell phones in learning. Voicethread "tracks" the number of views and so far I have had 4221 people watch!

As I mentioned in class, twitter really can be a great resource to keep up to date on the latest news and resources in technology education. Many of the resources and examples we are and will be looking at in class came from my twittoring connections. Just to give an example, here are a few things I have gained from my Twittor membership:
1) A huge network of educators from around the world, to communicate and collaborate. For example, the other day I was able to video conference with a teacher from Canada who was using cell phones with his students. His students presented their projects to me and I was able to ask them questions. They thought it was so cool to be presenting to someone at the University of Michigan.
2) A vast amount of new web2.0 project ideas. One example is the Flat Classrooms project (many schools participating in collaborative activities).
3) The ability to see how quickly information can travel. For example I sent out a link about a new resource and within an hour a teacher from India was asking me about it!
4) A great place to discuss ideas, get answers and occasionally even vent.

In our class discussion about blogs, I thought Melissa had an excellent point about personal blogging versus more content-orientated blogging. Students may be more comfortable with one or the other depending on their characteristics. I also appreciate teachers who are more comfortable with the resources we are using helping the others in class, I have noticed a lot of this type of exchange and I think a great way to learn these new resources is to teach or reteach them. Bravo and thank you!

On a final note, I am very excited to hear about the project ideas everyone comes up with for the Choice Multimedia Project! Definitely one of my favorite parts of class is learning from you and I always get some great ideas!

For a classroom setting I am comfortable with blogging. I think my original perceptions go much deeper. Before I would just see blogging as a way for people with big egos to get on their soapbox and preach to the world. Clearly, I was reading the wrong blogs. I now feel that blogging can be enriching when you’re sharing with a similar audience on similar issues.
